Launch of the New CYCC Website
Today the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition launched our new website. Our aim is to always think of this site as a “work in progress” ensuring that we continually improve and expand the site to meet the ever changing needs of our membership. We would like ot take this moment to sincerely thank Tyle Kuhn who has dedicated countless volunteer hours to CYCC in the design and development of this site (along with the Power Shift and Canadian Youth Delegation sites). Please take some time to check out the new site and all it has to offer, and feel free to send us any feedback you might have via info@ourclimate.ca.

CYCC Launches G8/G20 Campaign
The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition launched a campaign today focussing on this year’s G8 and G20 meetings taking place in Ontario in June. The goals of the campaign are to:
- To leverage the G20 as an opportunity to keep political pressure on the Canadian government to take meaningful climate action in order to achieve a fair, ambitious and legally binding climate deal at COP16;
- To strengthen youth mobilizing for a transition from carbon‐intensive industries to a clean and just economic future;
- To promote good, green jobs for workers in Canada to create a more vibrant, healthy and equitable society.
- To advance youth awareness and analysis of climate justice issues, locally and internationally.
- To diversify and strengthen the climate youth movement in Canada and build the capacity of youth climate organizers;

They Are Starting to Listen
On Tuesday the Liberals, Bloc and NDP passed a motion that shows Parliament wants a strong deal at Copenhagen (25-45% below 1990 levels by 2020 and provide support for poor countries to mitigate and adapt.) The motion is the democratic position for Canada at Copenhagen. We can now hammer the government for not representing Canadians, and show the rest of the world that Canadians want to be part of the solution, even if our government does not.
On Wednesday Harper and Prentice were cornered in question period about their plans for Copenhagen. The other parties were on the offence and now it was our government that was on the back heel.
On Thursday the Liberals announced a much stronger climate and energy plan, one that includes going faster than the US on cap and trade and a “framework for about 20% below 1990 by 2020.” Harper reversed himself and announced that he would go to Copenhagen. These are major changes in their respective positions.
Thank you to everyone who has pouring time and effort into pushing our government to take strong action on climate change – the events of this week have shown that we are making progress.
