What is CYCC doing for the convergence?
CYCC is expanding the movement by supporting youth to go to Toronto for the G20 convergence of community organizers fighting for global justice. Climate youth activists can learn from skilled and experienced people and organizers, hoping that youth will return to their communities and share the skills and knowledge they learned. CYCC is facilitating this convergence amongst the youth climate community and showing that our movement is strong and united. And growing! We have an opportunity to build a story across Canada, of youth taking action to address climate change and to inspire our communities.
When in Toronto, we will be plugging youth into the many ways they can build their skills or use their skills by joining the TCMN or helping them navigate around the People’s Summit. We want all youth to get as much as they can from the mobilizations in Toronto.
We will also be providing resources and an avenue through which we can work together on our own community initiatives. This is a real opportunity to think local, but act global!

The People’s Summit (June 18-20, Ryerson University) http://peoplessummit2010.ca
The People’s Summit is a conference about exposing injustices and then talking about how to create a just world. How do we, as members of a grassroots movement, take create the world we want to live in? How can we make sure that action is taken to combat the climate crisis and to protect our environment and its inhabitants? These are only some of the themes that will be discussed at the People’s Summit
The People’s Summit is where we will be talking about the real solutions to climate change, and the solutions that will create climate justice. This will be an excellent opportunity to connect with the people who are being impacted most by the structures and systems discussed at the G20. There will be panels and workshops. Basically….it is gonna be really great!
Toronto Community Mobilization Network (June 21-27, Toronto) http://torontomobilize.org
The TCMN is a collection of Toronto-based organizers and allies that will use the G8/G20 meetings as an opportunity to come together and share the work they do all year. These organizers are a group of community members and individuals impacted by the policies and systems created by the G8/G20. They are working together to organize a week of action after the People’s Summit.
Each day has a theme, and the 23rd is the day for climate justice and environmental justice. Other themed days include: indigenous sovereignty and self-determination, migrant justice, end to war and occupation, income equity, and community control over resources.
