JOIN THE AT THE TABLE CAMPAIGN
At the Table is a Canadian and global civil society campaign, mobilizing citizens to “take their place” alongside world leaders in important global summits. It is a call to leaders to “take their place” in forging bold decisions on the issues people care about—poverty, climate change, and economic justice. CYCC is a partner of the campaign, and encourage youth across Canada to get involved.
Campaign goal
Increased public awareness and support for bold action on poverty, climate change and the global economy at major global summits in 2010 (in this initial phase, targeting the G8 and G20 summits in Canada in June and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals summit in September).
In 2010 global summits, we need bold action on:
1.Poverty and Inequality
- Keep commitments to developing countries
- Invest in and empower women and children
2.Climate Change
- Reduce greenhouse gas pollution
- Support poorer countries in responding
3.The Global Economy
- Ensure global recovery for all
- Make global rules and institutions fair
How the campaign works
There are five core campaign actions:
- Take your Place: a quick online action where individuals “take their place” by signing up and registering their concern with gov’t leaders
- Flat Leader Action: a fun and interactive ongoing action involving uploading photos with your “flat leader” (paper cutout of G8 leader) and including a message
- At The Table Dinners and Events: organizations and groups organize community events and invite elected officials to discuss our issues; some events high profile
- Urgent Action Appeals: sent to campaign participants on key issues that arise during the campaign, asking individuals to respond with targeted urgent e-actions
- Global Day of Action: a high profile culminating activity for the campaign
There is also a Short Change video ad contest inviting submissions of short video ads on G8 and G20 issues. Juried and people’s choice prizes will be awarded.
