Ways to Get Involved throughout 2009:

Join the Canadian Youth Delegation Home Team

Members of the Canadian Youth Delegation Home Team will work closely with the Canadian Youth Delegation Copenhagen Team.  They will focus on domestic actions and media work, both traditional and new media.  CYD home team is open to all youth. We ask that all home team applicants agree with the Power Shift principles (please link it to the Power Shift Principles under the Guiding Principles link).

The bar for involvement is that you commit to the following:

1. 80% of scheduled home team calls

2. A minimum of 2 actions per week during the Copenhagen conference

3. A minimum of 4 hours per week before Copenhagen conference and 8 hours per week from December 7th to 18th

4. Attending the December 12th Day of Climate Action (if possible).

If you would like to join the Home Team please contact hometeam@ourclimate.ca.

Join the Copenhagen Canada List

If you want to stay in the loop with what youth are doing in Canada during COP 15 you should get yourself added to the Copenhagen Canada List.  We will send this list selective information related to Copenhagen (important updates & action requests, as well as ways to engage in the Canadian Youth Delegation Home Team).  This e-mail list will be monitored by our Domestic Campaigns Coordinator, your name will be kept private, and the listserve will disband after Copenhagen.  If you’d like to get involved and stay in the loop, please send an email to hometeam@ourclimate.ca and ask to be added to the list.

Join Climate Crew Mondays and the It’s Time to Listen Campaign

Every Monday in the lead-up to Copenhagen the Climate Crew Mondays Team will be staging actions in locations across the country around the theme It’s Time to Listen.

It’s Time To Listen is a Canadian youth-led campaign to make climate leadership the number one issue for Canadians, and make sure that our government knows that.  The campaign is being organized by the Canadian Youth Delegation to Copenhagen, as part of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition.

Its mission is to make Canada a climate leader at the UN Climate Summit and beyond according to the Power Shift principles:

1. Reduce emissions now
2. Commit to environmental justice
3. Invest in clean energy not tar sands
4. Create effective green and clean jobs
5. Lead Canada to be part of a progressive global deal in Copenhagen

The group does this by staging creative, weekly Climate Crews and Special Missions to inspire hearts and change minds.

To get involved, please contact: domesticactions@ourclimate.ca or join on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/ListenEcouter

Join the 5 for 5 Campaign

5 for 5 is a special mission of the youth-led It’s Time To Listen campaign.

Call 5 friends and family over 5 days to tell them that you want Canada to be a climate leader at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen by committing to world class scientific climate targets and investing in clean energy and green jobs.

Ask the people you call to call their Members of Parliament and tell their representatives that they want Canada to be a climate leader, and ask the people you call to join you in the 5 for 5 campaign.

Be a 5 for 5 Leader by calling 5 people over 5 days.   Be a 5 for 5 Champion by calling 5 people a day for 5 days.

How?:

Use this link to find your MP:

http://www2.parl.gc.ca/Parlinfo/Compilations/HouseOfCommons/MemberByPostalCode.aspx?Menu=HOC

You can use this number to call their Ottawa office toll free – 1 (866) 599-4999

If your MP is:

Conservative – Their government is opposed to world class climate targets and investing in clean energy or creating green jobs.

Liberal – Their party supports investing in clean energy and green jobs but has been weak on world class climate targets and supports continued expansion of the tar sands, the most polluting project on the planet.

Bloc or NDP – Both parties support world class climate targets, investing in clean energy and green jobs, and they need to know that their constituents want them to make these policies a priority in the House of Commons.
