This June, Canada will play host to meetings of the G8 and G20. This is an incredible opportunity to build our movement. We must make sure that the people are heard when the world’s eyes and ears are on Canada. The first step to get involved in the CYCC’s G8/G20 Campaign is to sign the G8/G20 Pledge. You can read the pledge and sign it here: http://www.ourclimate.ca/wordpress/g8g20-subpages/take-the-g20-youth-climate-pledge/
After that you can learn all about the ways you can get more involved no matter where in Canada you live by exploring the G8/G20 section of the CYCC’s website here: http://www.ourclimate.ca/wordpress/projects-campaigns/g8g20/
6) Make 10 Comments on Climate Change Media
Youth across Canada have expressed frustrations about recent media coverage around climate change science and about the public comments often posted on media relating to climate change. CYCC has partnered with the Pembina Institute to equip Canadian youth to Fight the Deniers in the media through comments on news stories, op ed pieces and letters to the editor.
The first step to getting involved is a simple one. Surf through a few online news sites and comment on at least 10 news stories you find about climate change. Let’s make sure the voice of Canadian youth calling for strong climate action is represented on these sites.
Not sure how to start? Check out our Fight the Deniers page for some resources to get you going.

Shutting down switch boards is fun, fast and gets Parliament’s attention. That’s why every Thursday, hundreds of people are calling targeted MPs to make our demands known:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25%-40% below 1990 levels by 2020; and 80%-95% below 1990 levels by 2050;
- Stop subsidies to dirty fossil fuel industries within five years, and ensure a just transition for workers in these industries;
- Implement an aggressive strategy to create good, green jobs;
- Allocate targeted funding to address the impact of climate change to developing countries and displaced migrants, and Canada’s northern, rural, indigenous communities and low-income peoples;
- Sign the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and respect principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent for indigenous and impacted communities so they can participate effectively at all levels of decision-making to address climate change.
Join the Facebook Group – Phone Mob Thursdays – for information on weekly themes and targeted MPs.
All of the funds raised go straight back into our programs and campaigns so that we can keep creating new ways for Canadian young people to work for climate justice. You can find all the information you need to donate here: http://www.ourclimate.ca/wordpress/support-our-work/donate/
