The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition partners with a number of organizations on campaigns and projects.  Our current partners are:

10:10 Campaign

10:10 started as an ambitious project in the UK on September 1, 2009 to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010.  They are asking individuals, businesses and institutions to commit to cutting their own greenhouse gas emissions by 10% in 2010.

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is working with 10:10 to move this concept beyond the UK.  Throughout 2010 we will be challenging Canadian youth to lead by example in Canada by making personal commitments to cutting their greenhouse gas emission by 10%.

350.0rg

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis–the solutions that science and justice demand.  Their focus is 350–as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number–it’s a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition partnered with 350.org throughout 2009 on the International Days of Climate Action on October 24 and December 12.  In 2010 we will work closely with them through our Green Jobs Campaign on the Get To Work Campaign that will see groups around the world taking concrete actions (installing solar panels, planting trees, starting local food co-ops, etc.) and sharing their message of action with world leaders on October 10th.

The Climate Action Network Canada

Climate Action Network Canada – Réseau action climat Canada (CAN Canada – RAC Canada) is composed of member organizations committed to preventing dangerous levels of human interference with the global climate system, protecting environmental sustainability and public health, while upholding principles of just transition, equity and social justice.  CAN Canada believes that to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Canada must make the transition to an economy primarily focused on the efficient use of renewable energy. Actions that Canada takes to meet our Kyoto Protocol obligations must lay the foundation for such a transition.

The CYCC is a member of CAN Canada and partners with them closely on most of our campaigns and activities. Our current work together is focussing on the G8 and G20 Meetings taking place in Ontario in June, and on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including the upcoming intersessionals in Bonn and COP 16 in Cancun.

Energy Action Coalition

Founded in June 2004 by youth climate leaders, the Energy Action Coalition unites a diversity of organizations in an alliance that supports and strengthens the student and youth clean and just energy movement in North America. The 36 active and 14 supporting partners of Energy Action Coalition work together to leverage our collective power and create change for a clean, efficient, just and renewable energy future.

Their Coalition is addressing climate change by winning clean energy victories at the local, state, national, and international level – all while growing and strengthening the clean energy movement among young people from all walks of life in the United States and Canada.

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is a supporting partner of the Energy Action Coalition.

Green Collar Careers

The Green Collar Careers (GC2) program is a new initiative that brings youth and industry together through engaging work placements focused on the green energy sector. GC2 provides an opportunity for youth to better understand their role in a sustainable future while gaining valuable job experience, as well as exposure to the growing green industry. Students have access to relevant green collar placements and receive additional support through resources and special workshops facilitated by TREC.

The Global Campaign for Climate Action

The Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA) is a bold, new initiative involving a growing number of national and global organizations in support of a single goal: to mobilize civil society and to galvanize public opinion in support of transformational change and rapid action to save the planet from dangerous levels of climate change.

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is a member of GCCA and partnered with them on the Tck Tck Tck Campaign.  We look forward to continuing to work closely with them throughout 2010 to mobilize young people around COP 16 in Cancun.

PlanetCall

PlanetCall was a program put in place in the lead-up to COP 15 in Copenhagen.  It was an invitation to young people to become co-architects of their future. It was about sustainable solutions, and our generation’s willingness to embrace a low-carbon future. Our world is made smaller by the Internet, giving us the power to connect with so many more people. This is exactly what is needed to create innovation and sustainable solutions.  They aimed to have over a million youth sign their petition for strong climate leadership in Copenhagen.

Students on Ice

Students on Ice is an award-winning organization offering unique educational expeditions to the Antarctic and the Arctic.  Their mandate is to provide students, educators and scientists from around the world with inspiring educational opportunities at the ends of the Earth and, in doing so, help them foster a new understanding and respect for the planet.

The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition partners with Students on Ice on our Canadian Youth Delegation program, facilitating exchanges between members of the Canadian Youth Delegation and Students on Ice Alumni.
