We are at a moment of critical opportunity. Having built a burgeoning youth climate movement, we now stand ready to move its momentum forward: Young people are calling for a historic effort to fundamentally transform the way our society produces and consumes energy-- creating new social and economic systems with clean, just, and sustainable energy supplies. Our answer to this challenge is green jobs. The question is no longer about whether global warming is a threat, or even whether we should take action. The question we are now faced with is what scale of action must be taken, when, and whether it will be enough. This is no longer a political question, but a moral one. The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition's objective is to help build a green economy that simulatneously creates new jobs while addressing pressing environmental, economic, and social inequities. “I'm talking about getting more renewable energy in our own communities, about fixing a lot of the housing and sanitation problems with our own people.” - Ben Powless, Indigenous Environment Network (CYCC member organization) |
Everyone is talking about a need for a new economy. As youth we need to be part of defining it. It will be young people who work in that economy, and our children who live its legacy. As young people in Canada, we will live the impacts of the decisions that are made today. As members of a national community whose jobs are threatened, whose families are feeling the tightening of the economic belt, who are witnessing our lands and waters polluted, our glaciers melt, and our leaders grasp for answers; we are heeding the call to action. We are ready to become the generation and workforce of solution builders - what we need is a movement of both bold and practical proportions to get us there. Join us in building OUR GREEN DREAM
