On December 11th the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition received the honour of being named one of the Tides Top 10 for 2009. The Tides Top 10 recognizes the nation’s most ground-breaking projects and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership, vision and real-world impact in addressing today’s most pressing environmental and social problems. Since 2003, Tides Canada, a leading grant maker within the social and environmental change sector, has profiled ten outstanding organizations that inspire people throughout Canada to think in new ways and to make the world a better place.
The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition was chosen for:
- educating and engaging youth on global warming through initiatives like Climate Crew Mondays – a campaign that engaged thousands of young people to encourage Canadian leaders to take meaningful action on climate change
- creating Power Shift Canada 09, the largest Canadian youth event on the environment, that involved more than 1,000 young people from every province and territory
- mobilizing the Canadian Youth Delegation to COP 15 negotiations in Copenhagen — thirty-five young Canadians will work in Copenhagen for a strong United Nations agreement on climate change, along with hundreds of youth from the Canadian Youth Delegation home team
The CYCC is in the company of other remarkable initiatives on this list, such as the Tusaqtuut Indigenous Knowledge Project and the Framework Foundation. And thank you to Tides Canada for the honour of this recognition.
